The history of Old Town Bluffton is rich and diverse, shaped by a tapestry of events, influences, and cultural heritage. The town’s origins can be traced back to the early 19th century when it served as a bustling center for commerce and trade along the May River.
Bluffton was established in 1825 and quickly flourished as a prosperous riverside community. Its strategic location provided easy access to transportation and trade routes, making it a hub for farmers, merchants, and boatmen. During the Civil War, Bluffton’s strategic position made it a target for Union forces.
